Train Alberta: Helping Albertans Build Skills and Find Meaningful Employment
For Train Alberta CEO Saleema Khan, helping people find meaningful employment goes beyond providing training. It also means preparing them for the workplace and working closely with employers to support their long-term success.
Founded in 2020, Train Alberta is a private training and professional development provider in Western Canada. The organization offers online courses, certificate and diploma programs in early learning and childcare, as well as government-funded employment training programs to help unemployed and underemployed individuals reconnect with the labour market.
Navigating the Changing Labour Market
Khan said that while businesses are interested in finding new talent, changing economic conditions, including tariffs affecting the country, have made employers more cautious about hiring, which creates additional challenges for job seekers.
“At Train Alberta, we really try to work with both the participants and the employers to help create meaningful employment gains,” she said. Khan also emphasized the growing importance of working together with industry partners. “I think collaboration is key right now,” she said, adding that forging partnerships helps organizations achieve their shared goal of supporting people as they move forward in their employment journey.
Strengthening Connections Through Employer Advantage
As Train Alberta continues its work, Khan encourages employers and organizations to explore partnership opportunities with Employer Advantage. She highlighted the program’s importance in today’s changing labour market, particularly its role in connecting business owners with potential employees and providing support for a smooth transition in the workplace.
